Richmondshire Building Preservation Trust (RBPT) has announced itis working with NICRE as fresh plans to redevelop the building are discussed.

RBPT, the charity that already which owns and operates The Station in Richmond, says Operation Regeneration has been launched to secure a new future for the building, with NICRE working on the first stages of the community engagement exercise.

Officials say it is hoped the project will “bring local people together to shape the future of the site, turning it into an asset for the community, and preserving this iconic Richmond building for generations to come”.

Residents of Richmond and the surrounding areas are invited to share their views to help inform and shape the future of the Old Grammar School building and grounds.

Chris Brown, chief executive of RBPT, said: “We are delighted to be working with the National Innovation Centre for Rural Enterprise on community engagement for Operation Regeneration, who bring specialist research expertise to the project.

“Understandably there is a lot of interest in the future of The Old Grammar School – it is such an important building and is much loved by locals.  We are keen to hear your ideas for how the building could be used in the future.”

The first phase of the community engagement work is already underway with an online survey for residents and visitors to complete about the regeneration project.

This will be followed by several in-person events and drop-in sessions in Richmond which will run until the end of the year, including information-gathering activities designed for children and young people, whose views are vital to the consultation process.
