A family connection added to the celebrations as Richmond Golf Club crowned its 2026 club champions at the weekend.
The club’s annual Ladies’ and Men’s Championships took place on Sunday, August 2, with competitors facing the demanding challenge of 36 holes in warm and sunny conditions.
Ruth Lightfoot claimed the Ladies’ Club Championship title, while Ryan Howe was crowned Men’s Club Champion, making it a family double as Ruth is Ryan’s mother-in-law.
The Ladies’ Nett prize was won by Lesley Calvert, while Andrew Gardner took the Men’s Nett title after a play-off.
The trophies were presented by club captains Claire Bateman and Ivan Rookes.
Claire Bateman said the championships had been a memorable occasion.
“The day was really splendid, with a real family double as the winners since Ruth is Ryan’s mother-in-law,” she said.
She also thanked those who helped organise the event.
“I’d like to thank Guy Pini, who coordinated the 36-hole competitions, supported by Penny Holroyd and Steve Morris.
“I’m also delighted that so many club members turned out to watch the winners come in.”
The annual championships are among the highlights of Richmond Golf Club’s calendar and test competitors’ skill and endurance over two rounds in a single day.
