Family of Reeth woman thank emergency services after fatal collision

The family of a Reeth woman who died in a road traffic collision near Northallerton have paid tribute to the emergency services and motorists who went to her aid.

Elsie Whitehead, 71, died following a collision at around 6.55pm on Tuesday, January 27 on the B6271 between Northallerton and Great Langton, near the Streetlam turn-off.

A red Kia Stonic left the carriageway and collided with a tree.

Elsie’s family said in a statement released by police: “We would like to thank the emergency services for their dedication, care and compassion.

“We’re also incredibly grateful to the people who stopped to help when it mattered most — knowing others were there and willing to help has been a real comfort and something we will never forget.

“We have also taken great comfort from all of the support and messages of condolence received.”

Officers would like to hear from any witnesses who have not yet spoken to police, or from anyone who may have dashcam or CCTV footage of the collision itself, or of the vehicle travelling along the B6271 prior to the incident.
