Farriers from the area are taking part in a Coast to Coast charity bike ride.

A total of 46 farriers and supporters set off St Bees Beach in Cumbria and have travelled through the Lake District to the Dales before they will head onto the moors and finishing at Sandsend beach near Whitby.

The journey will total around 170 miles.

Today, the group was due to take on the Buttertubs Pass and head down Swaledale to Grinton to take on the route used by the Tour de France.

It is raising money for the Farriers Foundation, which aims to provide relief of financial hardship amongst farriers or retired farriers and their dependents.

Oliver Ridout, from the group, said: “We have been fuelled by the very generous donation of sweet treats from Andy’s Traditional bakers’ of Leyburn, which we are very grateful for.”
