The Old Grammar School in Richmond is hosting two fund raising events in February.

A Gin and Cheese Evening will be held in Richmond’s Town Hall on February 15.

People can taste three gins from Mason’s Gin and five cheeses from Shepherd’s Purse, hear some of the history of these two companies and learn about flavourings and botanicals as well as the combinations of gins and cheeses that work well together.

Non-alcoholic cocktails will be available for those only interested in the cheese.

Tickets are £12 in advance from The Station Shop and Castle Hill Bookshop or pay on the door.

On Friday, February 22 you can rediscover your teenage years at a fun games night in Richmond at the Cricket Club on Hurgill Road.

There will be indoor games including darts, roll-a-ball, bar skittles, jenga, bagatelle, finger billiards – carom to those in the know, table football, dominoes and shove ha’penny.

Entry is £10 including pie and pea supper and first game with a small charge for each additional game, and also a raffle.

Book in advance for the pie and peas supper at The Shop at The Station, tickets £10

The fundraisers are to help raise the money required for the Richmondshire Building Preservation Trust (RBPT) to put in a second round application to the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for a grant to help restore and repurpose The Old Grammar School in Richmond.

For the past eight years, the Grammar School building has been little used and is now in a state of dilapidation.

Aided by a grant from the HLF and the Architectural Heritage Funds, Trustees of RBPT and volunteers have been working to reopen the building as a new community hub for Richmond supported by commercial activities.

Marcia MclUckie, from RBPT, said: “To fulfil our plans we must raise £800,000 to match our application for Lottery funding of £1.8 million. If we are successful, the restoration and repurposing work will start late 2019.

“We have already received significant donations and pledges but have still some way to go.

“We need your help to achieve our ambitions for the building.”
