Festive shopping night to be held in Hawes

A festive shopping night will take place in Hawes this week.

From 5.30pm onwards on Friday many of the town’s retailers will be open for a few hours of evening shopping to get residents and visitors in the festive spirit.

The businesses involved so far include: Bear Cottage Interiors; Lilly’s; The Old Sweet Shop; The Herdy Shop; Rhodes Pet & Wildlife Supplies, with Hattie Mack’s Yorkshire Woodcrafts; The Folly; Whites of Wensleydale; The Mulberry Bush; Flares & Graces; Stage 1 Cycles.

It is hoped more will have signed up by Friday.

Independent retailers will be providing a festive discount at their own discretion.

Helene Fawcett-Iveson, owner of The Mulberry Bush, said: “It’s a great opportunity for people to come and see what we have to offer.

“Some shops are putting on mulled wine and mince pies, and so far each of them is offering some sort of discount.

“There are so many great independent shops in Hawes, usually family run, that it makes for a great shopping experience.”

Abbie Rhodes, from Rhodes Pet and Wildlife Supplies, said: “We haven’t taken part before as we thought it would be more for shops that sell gifts, but we really wanted to join in this time.

“We believe strongly in shopping locally to support your community, and Hawes is lucky to have so much variety in its shops.

“In the end we thought it only right to get involved with our fellow shop owners for what we hope to be a great night.”

It is hoped the shopping evening will be the start of further retail and business events throughout the year.
