The winners of the Wensleydale Scotts for Storage League will be decided with the last league game of the season.
Unicorn’s 3-1 loss to Richmond Town Reserves on Wednesday evening means the Newbiggin team needs to at least draw with Reeth in their final game on Saturday.
The Dales team are yet to earn a point this season, meaning current league leaders Richmond Mavericks, who have played all their games, will not hold out much hope, but Unicorn will still be hoping to improve on their mid-week performance in order to avoid an upset.
In Wednesday’s game, Richmond were the better side in the first half and took the lead through Danny Weatherill on 15 minutes.
On 28 minutes, Richmond fashioned a good team goal that involved a flowing passing move which was eventually finished by veteran striker, Lee White.
Four minutes later it was 3-0 when White found strike partner Weatherill who finished smartly to continue his recent rich vein of form.
Town continued to play well in the second half and forced Unicorn keeper Mutch into a number of good saves, before a late consolation effort for Liam Reeves.
The game was marred by a serious injury to full-back Kyle Galloway in what turned out to be a dislocated ankle and broken leg, with everyone connected with the league wishing him a speedy recovery.
It was the second good win for Richmond that week with the team beating a strong Hawes team 4-0 away on Saturday.
Goals from Joseph Ramsay, luke Pearson, Harry Beresford and Danny Weatheril secured the points.
Unicorn enjoyed a comfortable 8-1 win over ten-man Spennithorne.
