Final preparations for Leyburn Christmas Festival

A previous Christmas Festival in Leyburn.

Final preparations are taking place tonight for Leyburn Christmas Festival which wilkl take place in the town tomorrow.

The festival will run from 10am to 5pm.

There will be a large marquee in the Market Place featuring stalls from local arts and crafts producers.

Mulled wine and mince pies will also be available.

Other attractions will include fairground rides, outdoor festive stalls, music and an appearance by Father Christmas in his festive grotto from 10am.

The crowds will be entertained by Dales Community Pop and Show Choir, Leyburn Band and carols sung by local school children.

There will also be children’s activities at Leyburn Arts and Community Centre such as bauble decorating and writing letters to Santa.

There will also be a Little Alf trail where people will be invited to find Little Alf – the miniature Shetland from the book series written by Hannah Russell – across the town.

Event manager Hannah Russell said: “I am very much looking forward to this year’s event.

“The whole team has put lots of work and effort in to make it the biggest and best event yet.”

  1. No doubt the event will be fenced off again, restricting access to the regular shops and cafes that have to pay extortionate rates and trade all year round. Valuable parking space is taken to accommodate temporary traders and this inhibits people using the restaurants on the Friday evening before the event. It’s about time organisers considered the effect on the existing shops trying to make a living too
