Final preparations underway for Wensleydale, Reeth, Muker and Moorcock shows

Final preparations are underway for four traditional agricultural shows which will be held in the district over the next three weeks.

The first event on Saturday is Wensleydale Show held just outside Leyburn this Saturday.

The main attractions in the main ring will be The Punjab Lancers – who will be demonstrating heir tentpegging skills – and The Drakes of Hazard – a sheepdog and duck display team.

As well as livestock classes, there will be vintage vehicles, heavy horses, a flower and vegetable show, dry stone walling, sheep dog trials, performances by Leyburn Band, a children’s fun fair and more than 200 trade stands.

Reeth Show will be held in the show field between Reeth and Grinton on Bank Holiday Monday.

The main ring attraction will be the Little Nippers Terrier Racing Display Team.

There will also be a wide range of entertainments, shows, displays, stalls and refreshments.

The Great Fremington Edge Fell Race will be taking place as usual, a regular fixture of the national fell race calendar.

There will also be the popular horse, sheep, cattle and poultry classes, sheep show and rabbit show, vintage tractors, vintage cars, vintage motorbikes, and vintage bikes on display from all eras.

Moorcock Show will be held on Sunday, September 3.

For the first time this year there will be Herdwick sheep classes.

There will also be will be two young handlers classes , with two new cup to win, and prize money.

Hawes Silver Band will play on the show field between 1pm and 1.30pm and again between 2pm and 2.30pm.

There also will be a children’s fun fair.

The showground can be found at Mossdale on the A684 Hawes to Sedbergh Road.

Muker Show is then held in the Swaledale village on September 6.

As well as livestock showing, there will be horticulture classes, a sheep dog trial, children’s sports and fancy dress, a stone walling demonstration, performances by Muker Band and the fell race, which cane be entered on the day.
