Firefighters were called to a commercial premises in Brompton-on-Swale today after a discarded e-scooter battery caught fire.
Crews from Richmond were alerted at 1.37pm to Scorton Road, where a one-foot-long lithium battery was found to be alight and in a state of ‘thermal runaway’.
Firefighters made the scene safe by submerging the battery in a bin of water — a standard procedure used to cool lithium cells and prevent re-ignition.
Staff at the site were advised to keep the battery submerged for 24 hours before arranging safe disposal.
