Fire crew tackle spread from controlled burn near Reeth

Firefighters were called to a fire in the open near Reeth after flames spread from a controlled burn and began affecting nearby trees.

The incident happened at 9.15pm in Stainton, near Reeth.

A crew from Leyburn was mobilised to reports of the fire spreading.

On arrival, crews found that what had initially been a controlled burn had extended beyond its intended area and was affecting surrounding trees.

Firefighters used a hose reel jet to extinguish the flames and deployed a ladder.
