Fire crews were called to assist two people after their vehicle became surrounded by floodwater on a road in Wensleydale.

Crews from Hawes and Leyburn attended the incident at around 10.31pm on the A684 between Aysgarth and Bainbridge.

Firefighters arrived to find a vehicle trapped by rising floodwater with two occupants still inside.

The crew helped the pair safely leave the vehicle and move away from the floodwater to a place of safety.

Firefighters then remained at the scene monitoring water levels until they had receded to a safe level.

Earlier in the day, fire crews had been called to the Lunds area following reports of water entering properties.

While dealing with the incident, firefighters were redirected to reports of vehicles stuck in floodwater near Appersett in Wensleydale.

On arrival, crews found that a local farmer had already helped the occupants of several cars reach safety. However, the driver of a van remained trapped in deep, fast-flowing water.

Due to the danger posed by the conditions, firefighters made the decision to carry out a snatch rescue to quickly remove the driver from the vehicle.

Crews from Sedbergh and Reeth worked with Hawes firefighters to carry out the rescue and bring the driver to safety.
