Firefighters battle large farm fire

Firefighters are battling a large fire at a farm near Tunstall.

Firefighters from across Richmondshire are at the scene after being called at 10.22am on Saturday.

Local residents have been urged to keep doors and windows closed.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said no injuries had been reported.

A spokesperson said:  “For attention of local residents in the Scotton, Tunstall and surrounding areas.

“Due to a large barn fire in the area giving off significant smoke, residents are advised to close doors and windows.

“Seven fire appliances are currently fighting the fire.”

They later added: “Crews from Richmond, Bedale, Leyburn, Reeth and Northallerton responded to reports of a barn on fire containing straw, tires and cylinders.

“The crews sectorised the building and used ground monitors to extinguish the fire.

“The incident is still ongoing and a cause is yet to be determined.”

Station manager Tony Walker added: “We have appliances relaying water to the incident.

“Please keep away while we do our work.”
