Firefighters called after controlled burning left unattended

Firefighters were called out last night after reports of a large fire spotted off the A66.

The incident happened at Hargill, near Gilling West, at about 10.10pm.

Crews from Richmond attended the scene.

The arrived to find a fire in the open measuring 15m by 15m, which was controlled burning which had been left unattended.

Crews used one hose reel jet and assistance from a farmer’s water bowser to extinguish the fire.

Advice was given to the land owner.
