Firefighters called to campers starting fires on moorland

Firefighters attended reports of campers starting fires on moorland yesterday

The Reeth crew were called to the incident near Langthwaite in Arkengarthdale at about 3.10am on Sunday morning.

The emergency services were told the campers were starting campfires on moorland using accelerants

The crews attended and found all fires to be out on arrival.

They gave advice and removed accelerants from two groups of campers.


  1. Well let’s hope that there is the same concern and response when the local gamekeepers set fire to the moors. We don’t need the toxic particulate pollution affecting our communities or the damage to moorland habitat and wildlife.

  2. Well said, DR! Visitors are usually just ignorant. Gamekeepers and their employers just don’t care.
