Firefighters called to car on fire in Wensleydale

Firefighters were called to a car on fire in Wensleydale yesterday.

The 2011 Volvo V70 set alight on Scarth Nick, near Redmire, at around 6.30pm.

The owner said they smelt a funny smell and flames appeared after they pulled up.

Nobody was injured in the incident.

The owner told Richmondshire Today: “I want to thank the fire crew from Leyburn whop were there within minutes and made sure everyone was okay.”

The crew used one hose reel jet, two breathing apparatus kits and a dry powder extinguisher.

In a separate incident, the fire crew from Hawes attended a campervan stuck in mud off a rural road on Sunday night.

Crews used the vehicle winch to move the vehicle to safety.
