Firefighters were called to a combine harvester on fire this afternoon.
The incident happened in fields near Aldbrough St John.
Crews from Richmond and Colburn were initially called out.
The fire spread from the combine to the surrounding field.
A spokesperson for Richmond Fire Station said: “As we approached the scene, the officer in charge requested a further appliance to ‘make pumps 3’.
“A crew from Darlington were to join us.”
Roughly an area of 2,000sqm was affected by the fire.
The spokesperson added: “Crews working in very arduous conditions, worked along side local farmers with the farm machinery to help create a fire break and also helped us dampen down the hot spots with a 16, 000 litre water tanker.
“Farm workers help in these situations continue to be invaluable, so please do continue to contact each other should you have a fire.
“Crews also used 2 breathing apparatus, hose reels and beaters to put the fire out.”
