Firefighters were called to a camp fire which had spread to nearby trees in Richmond yesterday.

A crew from Richmond Fire Station attended the incident in Castle Walk at 7.42pm.

A spokesperson for the station said: “A camp fire measuring 2m x 3m had spread into two trees.

“Crews used two back pack sprayers and the firefighters axe to extinguish the fire.”

They added that deliberate fires were a waste of their time and took up valuable resources.

“For 60 minutes the fire appliance in Richmond wasn’t available for more serious emergencies.”
