Firefighters were called out to rescue a van driver stuck in the snow yesterday.

The Reeth and Hawes crews did not know the van’s location and were only told they were nine miles from Hawes heading from Catterick.

A spokesperson for Reeth Fire Station said: “Thanks to a little local knowledge, a pair of binoculars and a local farmer, Reeth where able to locate the vehicle and driver safe and well.

“Advise was given to this driver and the driver who followed us to this incident after driving past the road closed signs.

“Please remember this winter, our higher routes remain blocked long after the snow has cleared from lower ground.”

  1. This person is a complete idiot. If the sign says road closed it doesn’t mean that it is open uhh. The only thing that I can think of is that this person cannot read? If that is the case that person should not be driving.

  2. Yes, my nephew is a fireman and his partner is an ambulance driver and the amount of call outs to incidents over stupid drivers is growing day by day. Where has common sense gone?
