Firefighters come to rescue of stranded motorists

Firefighters were called out to rescue motorists stuck in floodwater yesterday.

The River Ure flooded in several places on Sunday and blocked roads in Wensleydale.

Firefighters were called out several times to rescue motorists stuck in flood water.

Firefighters came to the aid of the occupants of a car driven into water on the A684 near Worton at around 1.40pm.

The crews assisted the occupants of the vehicle to safety and “gave advice”.

A crew from Hawes was then called at 4.30pm to reports of a car stuck in flood water on Hardraw Road.

On our arrival, all occupants were out of the vehicle.

A crew from Reeth was then called to reports of a vehicle stuck in flood water at Appersett just after 5pm.

The firefighters walked the occupants to safety and left the vehicle in situ.

A crew from Hawes was called to reports of a Range Rover stuck in flood water at 7.30pm.

The crew waded the two occupants to safety and left the vehicle where it was.

The A684 is understood to be passable this morning at Wensley.

The road on the opposite side of the dale at Nappa Scar, between Carperby and Askrigg, is also reported to be open following concern’s over subsidence yesterday.
