Firefighters dealt with a large blaze in Hawes last night just yards from the town’s fire station.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said a pile of around tyres were alight outside a garage near the station.
A spokesperson said: “The fire involved a large pile of approximately 200 tyres well alight creating a lot of smoke.
“The fire was contained and did not spread to nearby garages.”
The fire service was called just after 7pm, with the service receiving ten calls in total.
The Hawes crew was later joined by firefighters from Reeth, Leyburn and Bentham.
Two fire service officers also attended.
A large plume of black smoke can be seen from a long distance away.
