Firefighters were called out to rescue a bird of prey from a tree yesterday.

The captive red tailed hawk was stuck by its tassels 40ft up a tree in Colburn.

The crew from Richmond, together with a County Durham crew who brought an aerial ladder platform from Darlington, were called to the incident at about 5.30pm.

The bird was safely brought down and reunited with its owner.
