Firefighters were called to a house in Catterick Village after a passerby heard a smoke alarm sounding and noticed a smell of burning.
Crews from Richmond and Northallerton responded to the incident at about 1.38pm.
On arrival, firefighters discovered a fire in the kitchen of the residential property.
Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled the blaze using a hose reel jet.
A positive pressure ventilation fan was then used to clear smoke from the property.
No injuries have been reported by the fire service.
