Firefighters tackle large barn fire in Wensleydale

Firefighters were called to the scene of a large blaze in a farm building in Preston-under-Scar this morning.

Crews from Leyburn, Richmond, Northallerton and Reeth were called to the scene of the incident at 9.40am.

It is understood fertiliser and hay was in the barn, which is on fire.

Firefighters are using breathing apparatus and hose reels to tackle the fire.

One witness said: “You could hear the asbestos roof crackling and bits were flying up in the air –  it was like bonfire night.”

It is understood the barn belongs to Bolton Estate.
