A local fitness instructor is aiming to transform the life of people aged over 50.

Samantha Leatherbarrow, whose company is called SLB Fitness, offers small group personal training at her private gym at the Walkerville Industrial Estate in Colburn.

She said: “What I offer is fitness, fun and friendships for people over 50. It’s an opportunity for people who are 50+ to transform their quality of life and reclaim their health and fitness.

“A lot of those who I work with come to me with the usual age related aches and pains who are feeling fatigued, frustrated as to why they feel weak, unfit and can’t bounce back the way they used to in their 20s, 30s and 40s.”

Samantha added that a lot of personal trainers and gyms would run a session or a class then say “see ya” until the following week without offering extra support.

“There’s no communication and no accountability, and unless clients can hold themselves accountable, it can be really easy to fall off track.

“This is why I don’t just help them inside our sessions, but also provide them with all the support they need outside of those sessions too.

“This is a perfect service for those who don’t seem to get the help they need or for those who don’t feel comfortable in a normal gym or leisure centre environment.”

Samantha offers weight training, circuits, flexibility and mobility sessions, nutritional support and guides, and sleep optimising guides, as well as fun monthly events such as Zumba, bowling, hanging baskets and hill walking.

The instructor said she aimed to help her clients move about more freely with less pain and effort, and to improve their physical, mental and social wellbeing.

She said her sessions could also reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes through helping clients manage their nutrition, sleep and stress levels.

SLB will hold an open day tomorrow, Saturday, from 10am to 2pm, for all over 50s interested in finding out more.

It will take place at Unit 4, De Burgh Court, Walkerville Industrial Estate, DL9 4XB.
