Five motorists fined for illegal parking outside schools

Five motorists have been fined today for illegal parking outside schools in Richmond.

The offences included parking on yellow zig zag markings, on a bus stop obstructing buses or on a busy junction.

Inspector Martin Metcalfe, from Richmondshire neighbourhood policing team, said: “After not visiting our local schools for a few days as it appeared motorists were finally parking responsibly, I made an appearance today and issued five fines to five different vehicles in just 30 minutes.

“Not only are all the vehicles being parked selfishly and inconsiderately, they are parked in a dangerous position clearly endangering pupils, parents and other people in the area, which is clearly unacceptable.

“I will not give up and will continue to turn up unannounced when available until people finally get the message, as there is simply no excuse.”

Insp Metcalfe said other Richmondshire schools with issues would also be visited.

He added: “If you have to collect anyone from a local school I would strongly urge that you arrive earlier and park more responsibly.

“Anyone that has already had a fine or warning will get their vehicle seized if there is another occasion.

“To clarify the safety of our pupils is my main priority here.”

  1. Well done ticketing those selfish motorists . Visit Wensleydale School some time the parking is unacceptable

  2. Slapping tickets on car windows is not a solution. There are 2 windows morning and evening that create a major safety hazard. A pick up drop off solution in the area is required. I would suggest a survey first to assess the extent of the issue to formulate a sensible solution. Luckily not my problem anymore. But happy to discuss ideas with councillors if required.
