Flavours of Herriot Country award winners announced

The winners, sponsors and judges from the 2019 Flavours of Herriot Country Awards.

The winners of the 2019 Flavours of Herriot Country Awards have been announced.

The awards celebrate the best of the food and drink industry across Richmondshire and Hambleton.

Staff and owners from hundreds of producers and hospitality companies gathered for the awards at the Garden Rooms at Tennants in Leyburn.

The presentation event was hosted by Elly Fiorentini from BBC Radio York, with Rosie Page, daughter of James Herriot author Alf Wight, among the guest speakers.

As well as the 12 award categories, there was an award voted for by readers of the D&S.

The readers’ choice award went to Masons Yorkshire Gin which suffered a devastating fire earlier this year that destroyed their Aiskew premises.

But the company is now preparing to move into a new purpose-built facility at Leeming.

There was also a special recognition award which went to Thirsk-based Shepherd’s Purse Cheeses.

This year, the cheesemaker won three gold medals at the World Cheese Awards held in Bergamo in Italy.
