Footage has been released by the BBC of the 1948 Riding the Bounds ceremony in Richmond.
The clip was originally broadcast on October 4, 1948.
The walk is held every seven years.
It is believed the tradition dates back to 1575.
The original intention of the Boundary Riding was to identify and proclaim the boundary of the township.
While this is not longer the purpose, more than 500 people have participated in this tradition in recent ‘ridings’.
The footage has been released to the local media as part of a three-month pilot project making BBC archive film about Yorkshire available to the public.
