Youth football team takes part in tournament in Holland

A team of boys has travelled to Holland to take part in a football tournament with their club.

The Richmondshire Pro Player team – Harry Lancaster, Harry Read, Ronan Challoner, Rylee Hall, Seb McGregor, Harry Close and Jamie Greasley – were a mix of under 8s and 9s.

The boys raised funds for the trip by holding a football-themed quiz night, football raffle cards and team bag packing at Tesco.

The team also received donations from local organisations, Richmond Rotary Club, Landmarc Support Services and Richmond Duck Club.

The families travelled to Holland on the overnight ferry to get to the tournament.

The team won four out of the 6 games they played with three straight wins on the final day which meant they came top of their group.

Richmondshire Pro Player director, Callum Plumb said the boys were a huge credit to the club and their parents.

“To say five out of the seven of these kids are playing a year up with a size five ball, they have been outstanding.”

The team coaches were Jim McGregor and Jack Lancaster.

They said: “It’s been a fantastic experience for them and they have really bonded as a group after being put together as a team.

“It was a fantastic effort from the lads and it’s been really good to see them enjoy themselves in a brilliant environment.”
