Plans have been submitted to turn a former bank in the Yorkshire Dales into a bakery and cafe.
A planning application has been lodged for the renovation and partial change of use of the former Barclays Bank building in Hebden Road, Grassington.
The application has been submitted to the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority on behalf of Lee Teal, from Love Brownies, a business which already has outlets in Skipton and Harrogate.
Under the proposals, the ground floor would be brought back into commercial use as a café and bakery, while the upper floors would be converted into residential accommodation.
Planning documents say users of the cafe will be able to watch work taking place in the bakery.
They add that the scheme has been developed using a “conservation-led approach”, focusing on repair, reuse and minimal intervention to preserve the building’s historic character.
“The proposal represents a sensitive redevelopment of a prominent and currently vacant building within Grassington.
“It will restore the building’s condition, reinstate an active ground floor use, and provide residential accommodation above, reflecting the traditional pattern of development within the village centre.”
The documents add: “Despite its prominent location, as the building is currently vacant and underutilised, there is clear opportunity to restore both its physical condition and its active role within the village.”

The building has previously operated as the Jobber’s Inn and later the Commercial Hotel before becoming a bank, which closed in 2019.
