Former England rugby player visits Colburn Primary School

Pupils at Colburn Community Primary School have spent an afternoon with ex-England rugby player Katy Storie.

Katy told the Year 4 pupils her life story; from her first days at school to playing for England in rugby matches all over the world, and discussed with the children what they want to be when they grow up.

She talked to the class about the resilience that is required to fulfil your ambitions and she taught the children games and activities to help them build resilience and improve their team work and organisational skills.

Katy said: “I hope my visit today will inspire more young people to try something new, even if they’ve been put off sport before.

“There is something for everyone and it would be great if they now had the confidence to give it a go.”

The visit was organised by Kath Lawson, specialist teacher at YES@Arete Learning Trust.

Kath said: “Since it started in April 2018 our Lottery funded Activities for All programme has engaged 141 students.

“We have run 11 sessions in total of Swimming for All, Cycling for All, Dancing for All and Pilates for All.

“Colburn Primary School has supported us to encourage all students to engage with the benefits of exercise.

“We are particularly pleased that students who may have avoided exercise in the past have engaged with this inclusive programme.”
