Former HSBC bank in Leyburn sold to new owners

The former HSBC in Leyburn.

The sale of the former HSBC building in Leyburn was due to be completed yesterday.

The new owners have not yet been revealed, however the agents handling the process have confirmed the building will be renovated and be used for commercial and residential purposes.

The bank closed in June and the building was put up for sale through real estate company CBRE.

Kieran Leay, from the company, told Richmondshire Today yesterday that the parties had exchanged contracts and the sale was due to be completed later that day.

He added: “I cannot name the party yet but they will be redeveloping the property to mixed commercial and residential use.”

Mr Leay said they were aware the building had been damaged in a car accident the previous week.

He said they were in the process of getting it repaired.

There has been considerable speculation on the new owners with a national pub chain, a national coffee shop chain and a local businessman, who already owns retail property in the town, among those suggested as potential buyers.
