Former SAS soldier and bestselling author Chris Ryan is set to visit The Green Howards Museum in Richmond next month to discuss his latest novel as part of a charity coast-to-coast cycle ride.
Ryan will appear at the museum on Saturday, July 18, for a talk about his new book, Breakout, giving readers the chance to hear about the inspiration behind the thriller and his experiences as one of Britain’s best-known former special forces soldiers.
The visit forms part of a charity bike ride from Morecambe to Saltburn, with Ryan joined by veterans of The Green Howards Regiment, the Royal Yorkshire Regiment and The Green Howards. The group is raising money to support The Green Howards Museum.
The ride will begin in Morecambe on the morning of Saturday, July 18, before stopping at the Richmond museum and staying overnight in the town. The cyclists will then continue to Saltburn on Sunday, July 19.
Ryan, who was born near Newcastle in 1961, joined the SAS in 1984 and served for a decade on overt and covert operations. During the Gulf War, he was the only member of an eight-man SAS patrol to evade capture after a mission behind enemy lines in Iraq, an escape that remains the longest in the regiment’s history.
He was awarded the Military Medal for his actions and later spent two years selecting and training prospective SAS recruits before embarking on a successful writing career.
The event at The Green Howards Museum will run from 4pm to 6pm and tickets cost £15, which includes museum entry, a welcome drink and the author talk.
