Free climate crisis film screening to be held in Richmond

People’s Emergency Briefing will be shown at the Station Cinema on Tuesday, October 6, at 7pm.

A film featuring TV naturalist Chris Packham and comedian Jennifer Saunders which examines the climate crisis is to be screened free of charge in Richmond.

People’s Emergency Briefing will be shown at the Station Cinema on Tuesday, October 6, at 7pm.

The film brings together evidence from experts to examine the risks posed by climate change and potential solutions, covering issues including national security, farming, food security and the environment.

The Richmond event has been organised by resident Sally Reckert and will be followed by a short audience discussion facilitated by Sarah Hartley, editor of The Northern Eco.

Sally said: “People’s Emergency Briefing is a frank view of the mess humanity has got itself into – but it’s also a positive and hopeful prescription for how we can still put things right: fix our dirty rivers; ensure food security; prevent the breakdown of our climate.

“Bottom line: the film delivers hard and uncomfortable scientific facts, but is also a call for communities to take positive actions.”

The experts featured in the film initially presented their evidence to a cross-party group of MPs at Westminster.

Organisers say screenings are now taking place in village halls, community venues and theatres around the country in an attempt to encourage wider public discussion.

Sarah said: “The experts in the film initially gave their evidence to a cross-party group of MPs in Westminster so this screening is a fantastic opportunity to hear what our politicians have already heard.

“I found the film a very accessible way to understand the issues, covering everything from national security to farming in a refreshing and totally non-party-political way.”

The event is being promoted locally by Richmond Yorkshire Community Interest Company and Richmondshire Climate Action Partnership.

Admission is free, although people are being asked to reserve a ticket in advance through the Station Cinema booking page or at the cinema box office.
