1st XI — ECB Premier Division
Richmondshire suffered a frustrating defeat at Barnard Castle on Saturday, going down by six wickets in a rain-affected match at Vere Road Ground.
With captain Dan Hodgson absent alongside three front-line bowlers, the side were always likely to be stretched against the league leaders, and so it proved in a contest reduced to 38 overs per side after a delayed start pushed the first ball back to 3pm.
Sent in to bat, Richmondshire made a poor start, Raam Raj fell for just two with the scoreboard reading three, quickly followed by Max Percival for a duck at the same total. With two wickets down and little on the board, the innings needed rebuilding — and it was Joe White who stepped up emphatically.
The Richmond number four was in commanding touch, striking 70 from 79 balls including six fours and two sixes, providing both the anchor and the impetus that the innings required.
Mike Layfield gave solid support from the other end, working his way to 36 from 61 balls before falling to Robert West. Gary Pratt chipped in with nine, but once White was caught and bowled by the impressive Karl Carver — who finished with four wickets — the lower order struggled to add substance.
Owen Kelly contributed a brisk eight before Josh Dowson and Caleb Bradford departed without troubling the scorers, leaving Richmondshire all out for 138 from 32.4 overs. Carver and Suminda Lakshan shared the wickets between them, the former taking 4-43.
In reply, Barnard Castle were given an early shock when Harvey Websdale removed James Clarkson for a duck from the first ball, and Josh Dowson accounted for both James Quinn and the dangerous Karl Carver — the latter for a well-made 36 — to leave the home side 64 for four at one stage. However, Finn Usher proved immovable at the top of the order, posting an unbeaten 50 from 77 balls, and late in the innings Eddie Barnes came to the crease and struck a rapid 45 not out from 44 balls to see Barnard Castle home with 6.5 overs to spare. Websdale and Dowson each claimed two wickets for Richmondshire.
Richmondshire collected three batting points and three bowling points from the contest, leaving them second in the ECB Premier Division table — now 22 points adrift of Barnard Castle, who continue to set the pace at the top.

2nd XI — NYSD Division 1
The 2nd XI played out a draw at home against Sedgefield CC 1st XI on Sunday, in a rescheduled fixture from two weeks prior. Winning the toss and electing to field, Richmondshire were set a target of 217 after Sedgefield posted 216 for seven from their 50 overs.
Harvey Websdale was the pick of the Richmondshire bowlers, taking 3-50 from 15 overs, with Shaun Charlton adding 2-49 and Raam Raj chipping in with a wicket.
In reply, Jamie Stead led the Richmondshire batting with a measured 51 from 83 balls, well supported by Sam Winter (26), Isaac Bottomley (25) and a late flourish from Harvey who struck 27 not out from just 16 balls at the close.
Richmondshire finished on 162 for eight — 54 runs short of their target. The draw yielded eight points for Richmondshire, with Sedgefield taking 14.
4th XI — NYSD Division 4
The 4th XI produced a fine team performance away at Yarm Cricket Club, dismissing the hosts for just 47 to claim an impressive 81-run victory and take 25 points from the match.
Batting first, Richmondshire were indebted to Harry Saunders and Louis Morris for steadying the innings after a top-order wobble that saw the side reduced to 21 for five. Saunders grafted 27 from 61 balls while Morris compiled a composed 31 from 56, adding valuable runs in the middle order. Dave Moffatt chipped in with a useful 10 not out at the close as Richmondshire posted 128 all out from 38.3 overs.
With the ball, the performance was outstanding. Jake Wright led the attack superbly, returning figures of 3-5 from five overs — four of them maidens — in a miserly spell that set the tone. Harry Saunders was equally impressive, taking 3-10 from six overs, four of them maidens, while Andy Dade removed two further batsmen for 18 runs. Max Dawson wrapped up the innings to complete a comprehensive bowling display. Yarm were dismissed for 47 from 27.5 overs.
5th XI — Darlington & District League, Division B
The 5th XI produced a nervy but ultimately rewarding victory at Richmond School, edging past Raby Castle CC 2nd XI by just six runs in a tightly-contested 28-over match.
Richmondshire won the toss and elected to bat, posting 119 all out in their 28 overs. Mike White was the mainstay of the innings, top-scoring with 36 from 54 balls, while Finlay Curtis contributed 14 and John Bewell struck a handy 11 not out from just 11 balls near the close.
In the field, Alfie Bottomley was the pick of the bowlers with an excellent return of 4-13 from seven overs, well backed up by Jahan Mohammed who claimed 3-10 from four. Raby Castle pushed hard throughout their chase, finishing on 113 for nine from their 28 overs — six runs short.
