Communities along the Richmondshire leg of the 2019 Tour de Yorkshire can apply for cash from a new funding stream.

The district council has launched a scheme to help fund celebrations on Sunday, May 5.

The event fund is open for parish/town councils, community groups and voluntary groups.

They can apply for up to £1,000 but the deadline is later this month.

Projects including specific event activities, route animation and event infrastructure such as big screens or toilet provision can be supported.

“The 2019 tour comes through our district on its final day and we want to make sure the local communities celebrate the visit in true Yorkshire style,” said council leader, Councillor Yvonne Peacock.

“They have gone to town on previous visits and we don’t want 2019 to be any different – we hope our funding will help make that happen.”

The 2019 Tour de Yorkshire comes though the district on its last day – riders will head through Middleham and East Witton on their way to a finish line in Leeds.

The deadline for final applications is March 24, with preference given to activities taking place along the race route.
