Communities in North Yorkshire are being invited to apply for a share of up to £500,000 in government funding to support Armed Forces Day celebrations this summer.
The Ministry of Defence has opened applications for grants of up to £10,000 to help local organisations stage events marking Armed Forces Day, which will take place nationally on Saturday, June 27.
The funding must be match-funded and is aimed at supporting free, inclusive events for members of the Armed Forces community and the wider public.
The funding forms part of a nationwide programme to support hundreds of Armed Forces Day events, ranging from small community gatherings to large public celebrations. Last year, Cleethorpes became the first town to host the national Armed Forces Day event twice.
Defence Secretary John Healey MP said the grants were designed to help communities show their appreciation for service personnel, veterans, reservists, cadets and military families. He encouraged organisers to apply and register their events to help promote celebrations locally and nationally.
Armed Forces Day events are organised each year by councils, charities, schools, veterans’ groups and community organisations. To be eligible for funding, events must be free for members of the Armed Forces community to attend and align with the wider aims of Armed Forces Day.
Grant applications must be submitted by 31 March 2026. Full details, including eligibility criteria and event registration, are available at www.armedforcesday.org.uk.
