Funding made available for large community events

Reeth Show has been cancelled for the last two years.

Richmondshire District Council has launched a new fund to support local communities hosting large festivals and events this year.

The Large Festivals and Events Fund 2022 can help with up to £7,000 in grant aid.

It is the second fund set up by the council in the last month to help with celebrations in 2022.

Officials say there are already a significant number of annual established festivals and large scale events across Richmondshire – but most of these were cancelled during 2020 and 2021 due to covid-19 pandemic.

The Large Festivals and Events Fund aims to support the delivery of these, and any new large-scale events, in 2022.

There are grants of up to £5,000 for a single day event and up to £7,000 for an event held over two or more consecutive days.

It is expected that applications will be received from the organisers of festivals and events which deliver a significant benefit to the local economy through attracting visitors to the district, and which positively promote community engagement and participation.

Applicants are encouraged to get their applications in as soon as possible, even for events scheduled to take place later in the year, as demand is expected to be strong which may lead to an early closure of the fund.

Applications will be considered on a monthly basis throughout 2022 until all the funds have been allocated.  All allocated funds must be spent by 31 December 2022.

Council Leader, Councillor Angie Dale said: “We are pleased to be able to support community projects through this scheme as the benefits brought to our community through such events are considerable.

“The local economy benefits commercially and they see groups of local people coming together to work on projects which helps to promote the area to people living further afield.

“If you feel that your festival or event meets the criteria, we encourage you to apply.”

The council is also running a second grant scheme for community groups – the Platinum Jubilee Festivals and Events Fund offers grants of up to £2000 to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee this year.

Events may take place at any point during 2022, but they must demonstrate a clear link to the year-long celebration of the Jubilee in terms of theme and activity planning in order to qualify for funding.

Applications can be made for between £1,000 and £2,000.
