Richmondshire Building Preservation Trust is holding a fundraising dinner for their New Projects Fund which gives help to small heritage building projects in the area.

Based on the theme of Yorkshire Film and TV, the event on September 28 will feature Amanda Berry, chief executive of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), as the speaker.

Amanda grew up in Richmond and attended Lower School when it was still housed in the Old Grammar School building.

During the evening Amanda will talk about her journey from Richmond through 16 years of working in television to her current role as chief executive of BAFTA.

Her talk will be accompanied by a compilation of brilliant BAFTA nominees/winners’ photos and a short film.

After the talk there will be an auction, with Rodney Tennant as auctioneer, for a number of great lots including a limited edition print by local artist Ed Kluz; Canapes and Champagne at BAFTA’s headquarters with Amanda Berry; a tour of the House of Lords and drinks with Baroness Angela Harris; a two-night stay at Edinburgh’s Salisbury Green Hotel and Bistro, an 18th century mansion.

The evening is to be held at Tennants Garden Rooms in Leyburn and will be rounded off with dancing to discs on the juke box playing songs and music from Yorkshire based films and TV dramas.

Marcia McLuckie, from RBPT, said: “Get your posh frocks and smart casual gear ready for a great night of entertainment and help to raise money to help endangered buildings in the District.
