Further £65,000 allocated to improve Richmondshire’s play parks

The improved play park in West Witton.

A scheme to improve play parks in Richmondshire has been extended.

Members of the district council’s corporate board have allocated a further £65,000 to a project which will update council-owned facilities.

It comes on top of £400,000 set aside for this work 12 months ago.

That pot also included money for grants to community run play parks.

Since then seven council owned parks have been upgraded – in Richmond, Brompton-on-Swale and Tunstall.

The extra £65,000 will add another six to the list.

They are in Brompton on Swale, North Cowton, Preston-under-Scar, Richmond and Borough with St Giles.

Under the community group scheme 22 facilities have benefitted – in Bellerby, Scorton, Barton, Redmire, Gilling West, Harmby, Hunton, Colburn, Eppleby, Carperby, Middleton Tyas, Reeth, Askrigg, West Witton, Melsonby, Bainbridge, Catterick, Newton le Willows, Hawes and High Abbotside, Scotton, Constable Burton and Hipswell.

Councillors also requested that another £75,000 be allocated to this element of the initiative.

That request has to be approved by North Yorkshire County Council as part of the changeover to the new North Yorkshire Council.
