Giant TV and new bar among latest improvements at Catterick Racecourse

Catterick racegoers bold enough to brave the aftermath of Storm Babet on Saturday were among the first to enjoy the racecourse’s latest developments, which include a giant track-side LED screen and a new sports bar.

The new 60m2 outdoor LED screen, nicknamed Goliath, is believed to be the largest fixed-installation of its type on any UK racecourse.

The racecourse’s new sports bar, called Longshots. has now also opened.

Designed by Richmond-based Craggs Architects, courses bosses say Longshots is a contemporary, open-plan space bar which incldes a William Hill-operated betting shop.

A new bar has opened at the course.

Situated adjacent the betting ring and with a view over the track itself, Longshots proved  an instant hit with Saturday’s punters.

Catterick bookmaking stalwart Brian Hazell said: “That new big-screen is amazing. It’s simply the best I’ve seen in racing. What a fantastic effort for a little Yorkshire racecourse like Catterick.

Catterick CEO James Sanderson said: “Where Catterick leads, others follow, and our fantastic new big-screen and sports bar set the bar high.  This marks a further £400,000 invested in Catterick Racecourse, following on from the £1.5million Dales Stand, which was opened in 2021 by our MP and PM Rishi Sunak.

“Plans are already afoot for our next phase of development which is expected to commence early in 2024 and will further transform the public facilities on offer at Catterick.”

Racegoers can look forward to Catterick’s final Flat fixture of 2023 on Tuesday 31 October, before the 2023/24 Jumps season gets underway on Friday 24 November.
