Joshua Slater, who died tragically in an accident.

Grassroots football teams across the district will pay their respects to eight-year-old Joshua Slater who died this week in a road accident.

Adult teams in the Wensleydale League and children’s teams playing in the Hambleton and Richmondshire Junior League will hold a minute’s silence for the youngster before their games.

Many local clubs have also sent their condolences to Joshua’s family and friends.

Joshua played for Catterick Garrison Football Centre’s junior section where his mum Kirsty is a coach.

The tributes come as an appeal to raise money for Joshua’s family passes £22,000, with more than a thousand donations from individuals and local businesses.

The appeal had an initial target of £2,000.

Police were called by the ambulance service to Somerset Close in Catterick Garrison at 5.49pm on Tuesday following a report that a young pedestrian had been involved in a collision with a white Land Rover Discovery Sport.

Joshua sadly died at the scene.
