An appeal for information has gone out after thieves stolen gravel bought by volunteers as part of the Richmond’s Yorkshire in Bloom bid.
A man and a woman were seen taking the bags from the Gas Holder Garden on Thursday between around 7pm and 8pm.
This is situated behind the toilet block near the falls in Richmond.
This story continues after the adverts:
The garden is being renovated by volunteers ahead of the town being judged for the Yorkshire in Bloom competition.
Laura Morton, from Richmond Business and Tourism Association, which is behind the town’s entry into the contest, said: “This pair of lowlifes have stolen the meagre sum of about £15 worth of gravel but it’s annoying when the work and money that’s being put in is to benefit everyone.”
The pair were seen loading the gravel into a old, green Ford Escort with the registration possibly starting with an N.
The couple were abusive to a passer-by before driving off.
Anyone with information should call police on 1o1.
