Green Howards Museum to serve festive teas

A Richmond museum is offering festive refreshments in one of its most spectacular galleries.

The Green Howards Museum will provide a cosy setting for afternoon tea on two dates in December.

Guests will pass through the Medal Room with its array of more than 4,000 awards before stepping into The Normanby Room; filled with the furniture and glittering silverware of the Officers’ and Sergeants’ Mess, to take afternoon tea in a unique setting.

The afternoon teas, including a gluten free option, will be available on Thursday 7 December and Saturday 9 December from 3pm.

Guests can enter further into the Christmas spirit with the offer of additional sparkle; with a glass of prosecco, or extra spice – with a warming glass of mulled wine.

A sell-out Georgian themed dinner was held in the museum last year, and it’s hoped the festive afternoon teas will be just as popular.

It’s an impressive room, but with an intimate feel, particularly on a winter’s afternoon as the light outside is fading,” said museum director, Lynda Powell.

“We think it’s perfect as a venue for a pre-Christmas treat in a really special setting – you might even be lucky enough to sit on our Mousey Thompson King and Queen chairs.

“All bookings will directly benefit the museum as we will be using the money raised from the two events to further improve the way we display our extensive collections of military objects and personal treasures.”

Festive afternoon tea is £14.50 per person and £17.50 for the added sparkle and spice options. Reservations are essential.
