Heavy snow forecast for parts of Richmondshire on Thursday

The forecast for Richmondshire at 12pm on Thursday.

More heavy snow is forecast for Richmondshire on Thursday with strong winds likely to cause further problems on the road.

A Met Office amber warning remains in place for parts of the district, with heavy snow showers predicted to fall over the west of the district.

Richmond and Catterick Garrison could escape the worst of the snow, but communities in the Upper Dales could see persistent showers throughout the day.

Winds of up to 50mph are forecast from early in the morning across the district and are predicted to continue into Friday.

Temperatures are set to remain below zero.

A Met Office spokesman said: “Strong winds will lead to drifting of snow and severe wind chill, while lightning could be an additional hazard, particularly near coasts.”

The amber and yellow warnings covering Richmondshire remain in place until 6pm on Thursday,
