Heavy snow makes life difficult for drivers in Richmondshire

The A684 between Leyburn and Constable Burton at 9.20am this morning.

Heavy snow caused problems on the district’s roads this morning.

Snow fell across the district with the heaviest falls on higher ground in the Dales.

Police in Richmond reported a number of minor traffic accidents because of the snow.

The A66 and A1(M) through the district both remained open.

 

The A66 trans-Pennine route remains open. This was the scene at North Bitts near Bowes at 9.36am this morning.

The snow stopped in the afternoon and the majority of roads remained clear.

North Yorkshire County Council said it would continue gritting and clearing priority routes today.

The snow caused problems with public transport. The Little White Bus said it could not get further up Swaledale than Reeth.
