A vulnerable missing person was found today after a major search operation in the district.

Volunteers from Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team were called by North Yorkshire Police to help in the search for the high-risk missing person in the Whashton area.

The person had been missing since 4.30am this morning.

Steve Clough, SMRT controller said: “We coordinated the search and worked with the police, British Army, National Police Air Service and RAF Leeming MRT.

“Using telephone tracking information, we were able to identify a likely area where the person might be.”

Search parties were deployed and were successful in finding the missing person safe and well.

“Finding our missing so quickly after being called out is an excellent outcome,” Steve added.

“As always this was a team effort and our thanks go to all the partner agencies involved.”
