The Great British High Street promotions team visited Richmond this week to promote the Great British High Street Awards (GBHSA)  and Spend and Win Competition to local businesses.

The team encouraged businesses to take part in the competition and gave away some goodies such as tote bags and chocolates.

The team were met on the obelisk steps by characters from the Georgian Theatre Royal’s panto, including a camel!

This story continues after the adverts:

Theatre manager, Clare Allen welcomed Richmond’s entry into the awards.

She said: “We are delighted to be part of the Great British High Street competition.

“This celebrates all that the town has to offer for visitors and residents through both attractions and shopping

The GBHSA promotes town centres and their shopping streets, encouraging people to shop local and use their locally run shops and facilities.

Research results published in the Guardian newspaper in December 2014 showed that for every £1 spent with a small or medium-sized business 63p stayed in the local economy compared to 40p with a larger business.

There is still time for businesses to join the Visa Spend and Win Competition.
