Homes left without power after harvester catches overhead wires

Hundreds of homes and businesses were left without power this afternoon after a power cut which occurred after a farm contractor caught overhead power lines.

The harvester caught cables while working in fields near Aysgarth.

The power cut was reported at about 3.30pm.

Northern Powergrid said it caused a power cut for around 810 properties.

It is understood the villages affected included West Witton and Wensley.

Power was restored at around 5pm.


  1. These combines areget bigger and there doesn’t appear to be the same rules that low loaders have to comply with. I feel that they should have to move on trailers as they are too high and wide for our rural roads I do understand that on and off loading is onerous but most are now wider than the standard 6m road
