A hospice care charity has teamed up with a local firm of solicitors to encourage people to make or update their will this month.

Herriot Hospice Homecare’s Make a Will Month takes place throughout June, making it simple and straightforward for people to make a will while supporting their local hospice care charity.

The initiative is being supported by Coles Solicitors, who are waiving their professional fees for standard wills made as part of the scheme, instead inviting people to make a donation to Herriot.

Peter Gibson, Managing Director of Coles Solicitors, said: “People often think that important things will automatically go to their family when they die, but unfortunately this is not always the case.

“Making a will with a solicitor is the best way of ensuring that the people and things you care about are looked after.

“We are delighted to be able to support Herriot Hospice Homecare’s Make a Will Month. Not only will we be helping people safeguard the future of things that matter, it will also raise money for such an important local charity.”

Chief Executive of Herriot Hospice Homecare, Tony Collins said: “We would like to thank Coles Solicitors for their remarkable support as part of this valuable initiative.

“We know that many people put off making their will, with national figures showing that one in three adults are currently without this important document.
“We are keen to give local people the opportunity to make their will as part of an initiative which is simple, straightforward and offers peace of mind.”

Herriot Hospice Homecare, a hospice without walls, provides high quality, personalised care to local people affected by terminal illness across Hambleton and Richmondshire. The charity’s specialist services support patients to stay in the familiar surroundings of their own home in their final weeks and days.
Tony continued: “As well as the peace of mind that the people and things you care about are looked after, you’ll gain the rewarding knowledge that your Make a Will Month donation has made a real difference to someone right here in our community.”

Coles Solicitors have 10 branches across North Yorkshire, including Northallerton, Thirsk and Ripon.
